The Shipping Association of Guyana (SAG) is a private organisation that represents its membership of terminal owners, shipping agents and ship owners, and, in general, the shipping industry in Guyana.

In 2006, following the completion of a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) project aimed at providing for the institutional strengthening of the Association through human resource development, inclusive of mechanisms that would enable it to continue operating and to provide quality training and other services to the maritime industry, SAG was reorganized in an effort to “energize” its members and to deepen and expand its relationship with other stakeholders.

In pursuance of its goals, the Association was transformed into a trusteeship and a new management structure was established with the appointment of a new Managing Committee, presently chaired by Mr. Andrew Astwood, Managing Director (Acting) of Guyana National Shipping Corporation Ltd., with Mr. Bernie Fernandes of John Fernandes Ltd. serving as Vice Chairman.

Eight other members complete the management team in keeping with the new constitutional requirements.

Trustees of the Association are:

  • Mr. Clinton Williams - Chief Executive Officer of Guyana National Industrial Company
  • Mr. Chris Fernandes - Managing Director of John Fernandes Ltd.
  • Mr. Malcolm Bascom - retired Managing Director of Guyana National Shipping Corporation.

The SAG is represented by a Secretariat located at 10-11 Lombard Street Werk-en-Rust Georgetown, Guyana, South America and can be contacted on telephone number 592 226 2169.
